This morning I received a copy of a letter dated October 27, 1999 addressed to San Jose Mayor Ron Gonzales from the California Department of Corrections Parole and Community Services Division. Required by Government Code 14681.5, the letter gives 60 day prior notice of the Department of Corrections plan to lease an existing building for use as a parole office. The letter also asks the mayor to sign the letter if he approves the plan or doesn't have any objections to the site.
The Department of Corrections is considering leasing a site at 83 Great Oaks Boulevard for a parole office that will consist of 46 staff of which 27 are Parole Agents with Peace Officer status. The new sites nearest cross streets are at Great Oaks Boulevard and San Ignacio Avenue. The Department of Corrections plans to partially vacate their site at 165 Lewis Road which is near the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds.
