Subj: Forrest Williams' $100,000 Second Job Today I was disturbed to read in the current Metro that councilmember Forrest Williams earned $100,000 last year moonlighting as a consultant for IBM. The city of San Jose unlike most cities in the region pays a reasonable salary of $75,000 to members of the city council so they can work full time on the difficult issues facing San Jose. Councilmembers are also given $600 per month as a car allowance. The local press has a low opinion of councilmember Williams. Today the Mercury News listed him as a marginal pick. The Metro said that district two will hibernate for another four years if he is elected. Before we vote, councilmember Williams at a minimum should tell us how much time he spends working for IBM to earn $100,000. My preference would be for councilmember Williams to pick one job or the other. One has to wonder if the negative reviews are a result of councilmember Williams spending too much time working for IBM instead of the city of San Jose. |
