Subj: Responding to the 1/12/04 Note
From: [email protected]

I know that you found the note on your porch. I think you misunderstood the idea.

We, the community, includes residents within the Santa Teresa boundary. That includes me. I have an 8 and 11 year old. I use the pool during the summer and I'm concerned about teens in MY neighborhood. In fact, I'm concerned with all teens.

People in California have been ignoring the students in public schools because the politicians (most) have their children in private schools and don't care. 99% of our schools are in physically worse condition than inner city schools all over the U.S.. We need to pay taxes. Everyone says that prop 13 did it, but get over it. If prop 13 would not have happened our housing would be more affordable across the board because our taxes would be higher (Do the Math: H+T=$, H= -$), our schools would be newer, and our children would have art, P.E., and music. Our high schools would have better facilities. Coaches would be paid higher salaries. 20 years ago my high school coaches were paid $3,000-$5,000 depending on experience. I bet that is not happening in California.

You ask why am I here. My husband has 10 years until retirement. Then, see ya. No one has the mind or courage to change. I'll move to the Midwest where all people value all children, land of the democrats and responsible republicans. People here care more about money or don't want to get involved. California is 30 years behind in education. The standards for teachers now were the standards in place in the Midwest 20 years ago. Cross your fingers and hope.

The only good things about ST are the students and the teachers. I wish I could have seen more the other night. That room shoud have been way too small because of all the supportive students.
