According to Rubens Dalaison, press officer for the San Jose Police Department, here is what he could find:

... at the time (approx. 12:20 a.m.) and location you are asking about the only event we had that might explain what was heard or seen was a call from a citizen via cell about a suspicious person (Hispanic male w/ lots of tattoos and a Mongolian style hair cut) that was trying to hide from something or someone and was asked by this person for a ride and to hide him. officers saturated the area along w/ Air2 looking for the person w/ no luck. The gun shots were not a part of this call but the helicopter was. There was a call @ approx. 1:15 in the morning about 2 miles away of shots fired, but no one was found in that area victim or suspect and there was only one caller to 911 about that incident.
