Subj: Poor Forrest

Last Thursday the Mercury News editorial board examined the two candidates running for city council to represent district 2 (most of south San Jose). The editorial board had harsh words for incumbent Forrest Williams but did give him a compliment when they wrote:

"He voted for a Calpine power plant at Tulare Hill, even though many people in his district opposed it, because more locally generated power was needed by the region. Stands like this show character."

I am not sure what vote the editorial board is referring to but the last major vote by the city council paving the way for the approval of the Metcalf Energy Center was back in June, 2001. According to the city council synopsis at http://www.sanjoseca.gov/clerk/6_26_01s.htm, Forrest was the only council member that voted AGAINST the agreement between the city and Calpine.
