Subj: Why people shout at MEC Community Meetings
From: T. Alton

I appreciate the need for reasonable discourse at the MEC community meetings but after 3.5 years of inaction I find it tough not to break the classroom rules.

The latest excuse for no monitoring stations is a current lawsuit by STCAG and others concerning the contract between the city and Calpine, filed in Jan.2004.

But from STCAG web site:
Metcalf Energy Center Delayed Again: Summer 2005
At the last Metcalf Advisory Committee meeting held on October 15, 2003 at Martin Murphy Middle School, Calpine announced the Metcalf Energy Center has been delayed until the Summer 2005 timeframe. The previous schedule showed the Metcalf Energy Center starting commercial operation in December, 2004. Calpine said the delay was in response to electricity market conditions.

So until the change of plan was announced on October 15th the monitoring stations should have been in place December 2003. Which means, given the 90day lead time and installation time, the equipment should have been ordered in September 2003, 15 months before the lawsuit in the latest excuse was filed.
