To Neighbors and Friends of La Colina Park:
( Located along Los Pinos Way between Ansdell Way and Lean Ave. )

Greetings!
6-4-00

I know it's been a long time since my last report but there is finally something to report about. The renovations and upgrades that were approved due to neighborhood participation in Spring of 1999 are finally up for bid. Many delays have pushed the original completion date of December 1999 to something more like late Fall of 2000. But the work is being bid upon at this very time!

According to Todd Capurso, San Jose City Parks Manager, the work contract for La Colina Park should be awarded during the City Council meeting of June 20, 2000. After that it will take 30 to 60 days before construction can begin due to two factors. One is the backlog of up to 60 days worth of work during this "good economic cycle". The other factor is an approximate six week lead time on ordering play equipment. Obviously the contractor cannot order such equipment until the final approval of a contract by the City Council.

Todd informs me that only the portions of the Park being worked on will be closed off. Also, since the three main entrances to La Colina Park must be upgraded for full accessibility he assures me that at least one Park entrance will remain open throughout the construction period.

So, hopefully our long wait is almost over!

Yours in anticipation,

PS: Please feel free to contact me with questions or concerns. I am also helping to coordinate efforts to preserve the Santa Teresa Foothills from Santa Teresa County Park to Almaden Lake as "Open Space". There are three separate volunteer groups and many individuals interested in making this dream a reality. If you would like to join with us send me your Email address and I will keep you posted.
