CITIZENS GROUP "COMMUNITY ACTION IN ROBERTSVILLE" FORMS TO ADDRESS NEIGHBORHOOD CONCERNS

Officer Elections Announced

August 2, 1999 -- San Jose, Calif. -- A group of 500 people in the Robertsville area of San Jose have organized under the name of Community Action in Robertsville (CAIR). The goal of CAIR is to heighten citizen awareness about activities taking place in the Robertsville neighborhood and to actively participate in local and state government to ensure decisions are made with community input.

CAIR today announced the election results for officers at a vote taken on July 24. By unanimous decision, the organization elected Jim Chase as president; Linda Gregory as vice-president; Vicki Walter as secretary; and Linda Smith as treasurer . CAIR was formed in June 1999 in response to San Jose Unified School District's decision to relocate Broadway Continuation High School onto the campus of John Muir Middle School.

The Robertsville neighborhood is located in San Jose, just south of Willow Glen. Robertsville is bordered by Hillsdale Ave. and Capitol Expressway on the north, Pearl Avenue on the east, Highway 85 on the south and Meridian Ave. on the west.

CAIR's founder and new president, Jim Chase, said, "Beyond Broadway, my vision for CAIR is to facilitate community involvement to promote the quality of life in this neighborhood by working proactively with our elected officials at all levels." Chase has lived in San Jose for five years. He has two children and coaches youth sports through the YMCA, city Parks and Recreation and the local Little League Chapter. Jim is married to Kris Chase, who serves as CAIR's webmaster.

Linda Gregory, CAIR's new vice president has lived in San Jose for 18 years and is married and the mother of three children, one of whom attends John Muir Middle School. CAIR's secretary, Vicki Walter, has lived in San Jose for 12 years, is married and has two children.

Linda Smith, CAIR's treasurer said, "Even though our organization is less than a month old, we already have been very successful in raising money. We have about 500 residents that are helping CAIR achieve its goals." Smith has lived in San Jose for 16 years, is married, and is the mother of Laura Smith, who serves as CAIR's fundraising chairperson.
